If you’re a wrestler, no matter which level you compete at, you need to care for your smile. This might seem like an odd recommendation, but it’s a very important one. Unfortunately, your teeth and gums can be damaged this wrestling season if you’re not careful. So, please care for your smile as much as possible. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Jay/Ryan Scott, has some tips.
First, wear a mouthguard. This is very important if you want to avoid chipped, broken, or knocked-out teeth or injured oral tissues when you wrestle. The mouthguard can protect your smile when you suffer a blow to the face, so please don’t step onto the mat without one.
Second, avoid drinking sports drinks. Sports drinks are great in theory, but, in reality, they’re not great for the teeth. This is because they are packed with sugar, and sugar promotes cavities. Cavities are one of the most serious and dangerous dental issues. So, do your best to prevent cavities by drinking water instead.
